Excerpt:
"We have one thing in common. We
are parents caring for a child with a serious illness. Whether
birth defect, life-threatening illness, or a life-altering
accident brought us to this point, the result is the same.
"The truth is we are not alone. The enemy wants you
to believe you are the only person dealing with this situation.
Sadly, many parents are dealing with similar situations.
“First, let me say, ‘I am so sorry.’ My
heart breaks for you. How I wish I could give you a big
hug. I‘m sure this workbook would not have been your
number one choice of reading material. Certainly, it would
not have been mine either. That is, before my son‘s
accident and serious illness. You have been on my mind almost
ten years. Since my son‘s leukemia diagnosis, this
workbook has been my heart‘s desire. This interactive
resource allows parents of seriously ill children the freedom
to address and work through the multitude of emotions we
feel.
"My prayer, as you work through
the care sessions, is that at the very least you will not
feel alone; but that you find hope in knowing that a fellow
sojourner was sustained while traveling this rocky path.
I pray that you receive encouragement and find a safe place
to share your feelings with folks who are on a similar journey.
At the very best, I pray you find the care and comfort you
need through Jesus Christ, the tender loving Comforter of
your soul, as you travel along this path of caring for your
seriously ill child."

About the Author
Rita
Gray has “been there and felt that”
as the mother of a seriously ill child. The terms “seriously
ill child” and “emotional roller coaster”
are synonymous. On September 25, 1996, she buckled her emotional
roller coaster seat belt. “At times," she says,
"the unforeseeable twists and turns of childhood cancer
seemed to catapult me out of my seat. Eight words accurately
describe this journey: Get in, sit down, shut up, hold on.
However, eight alternative comforting words from Psalm 46:10
still firmly holds me in my seat: Be still and know that
I am God.” Sharing comfort with parents through scripture
and short, snippets of a fellow sojourner’s story,
Rita gives parents hope to cope on their ride of a lifetime.
Rita
holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with emphasis
in Public Relations and a minor in Health from Milligan
College. Her published works include devotionals and articles.
She also served as a historical writer for the Sullivan
County News. Serving parents of seriously ill children
is her passion. Her public speaking includes seminars for
church staff and volunteers ministering to parents of seriously
ill children.
She
lives with her best friend and husband, Steve, of 22 years,
and their three children, Katie, Ryan and Chad in Abingdon,
Maryland.

What the Reviewers are saying about TLC
for Parents of Seriously Ill Children...
"This workbook and discussion guide
has emerged out of the crucible of life experience. Rita
Gray knows what the journey is like. She has been traveling
this road for ten years and is aware of what it requires
in terms of physical, emotional, and spiritual resources
to be the primary caregiver of a seriously ill child. You
will find yourself encouraged and challenged as you reflect
on the insights and truths in these pages."
